Southeast Portal for Electric Transportation Opportunities

This portal serves as a central hub that aggregates and enhances the visibility of active funding sources, comment solicitations, research opportunities, events, and other participatory initiatives geared towards advancing transportation electrification – primarily across Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

This list is managed by Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability as part of the Southeast Electric Transportation Regional Initiative (SETRI).

The US Department of Energy is issuing a funding opportunity announcement (FOA) for the Grid Resilience and Innovative Partnerships (GRIP) GRIP program. will provide funding to modernize the American electric grid and to maximize the benefits of the clean energy transition as the nation works to curb the climate crisis, empower workers, and advance environmental justice. Projects that support electric vehicle charging infrastructure, vehicle-to-grid technologies and capabilities, and electric vehicle are among technical approaches of interest and priority investments (among numerous topics). A webinar hosted by Virginia Energy and Virginia Clean Cities on the the EV Charger Assistance Program (EVCAP). This funding program offers grants for EV charging vendors or collaborative initiatives between governmental bodies and technology providers in Virginia.

North Carolina Division of Air Quality (DAQ) will hold a second webinar on the Mobile Sources Emissions Reduction Program Request for Proposals for interested stakeholders and applicants. The webinar will provide step-by-step instruction for how to fill in the application, how to upload documents, and how to submit an application to the program. The webinar will also briefly introduce the requirements to receive reimbursement for submitting a claim once the project has been completed.

The SC Energy Office has received formula funding through the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program to award subgrants to projects and programs that improve energy efficiency, cut carbon emissions, and reduce energy use. Units of local governments in South Carolina may apply for Energy Office subgrants, if they were not eligible to receive EECBG funding directly from DOE as listed in the EECBG Local Government Allocations. The Energy Office plans to award between 20 and 30 EECBG subgrants ranging from $50,000 to $75,000 each. Cost sharing is not required, but leveraging of funds is encouraged to maximize the energy-related benefits of each project. Additionally, projects in disadvantaged communities as defined by the Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool (CEJST) will be prioritized. The Innovate Alabama Network seeks applicants from non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and communities for its designation program. The network is designed to recognize and award ecosystem partners for their commitment to support innovation and knowledge-based economic activity. Upon earning a designation, applicants will earn up to $250,000 as an award for acceptance and ongoing access to the Innovate Alabama Network. This award should be used to advance innovation along Innovate Alabama’s people, place, and resource components. See link for details.

Duke Energy is seeking interested school districts in NC to participate in a forthcoming EV School Bus program. Under this program, Duke Energy will provide charging infrastructure for EV school buses and partial funding for bus deployment. Exact timing of deployments is subject to additional funding opportunities; therefore, at this time, the company is seeking districts replacing buses in 2022 and 2023 that have an interest in deploying EV school buses. Up to $215K of funding for each electric school bus and associated infrastructure available. See link for eligibility and details.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet are seeking input from entities in Kentucky interested in voluntarily hosting or siting a publicly accessible electric vehicle charging station. The Tennessee Volunteer Emission Reduction Strategy (TVERS) is an emission reduction plan currently being developed by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC). TDEC is seeking public and stakeholder input in fall 2023 through a survey. Transportation (including electric vehicles) is among the multiple topics in the survey.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued a request for information (RFI). FHWA is issuing a biannual RFI to receive information on the status of the EV charger industry during a temporary public interest waiver of Buy America requirements for steel, iron, manufactured products, and construction materials in electric vehicle (EV) chargers. Requests for comment include, but are not limited to, the number of chargers recently produced by EV charger manufacturers, projections on chargers expected to be produced, and the number of EV chargers recently purchased by recipients of Federal financial assistance and projected to be purchased by recipients of Federal financial assistance in the near future.

Submit a proposal for the 2024 Roadmap Conference, hosted by Forth in September 2024, and join over 1,000 EV industry stakeholders in conversations centered on the most important topics in electric transportation. The hosts are particularly interested in leading developments and emerging questions shaping the future of electric mobility. The conference program will be divided into four tracks: vehicles, charging, impact and cutting edge. The following questions are meant as a starting point - we welcome your creative ideas.
