Southeast Portal for Electric Transportation Opportunities

This portal serves as a central hub that aggregates and enhances the visibility of active funding sources, comment solicitations, research opportunities, events, and other participatory initiatives geared towards advancing transportation electrification – primarily across Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

This list is managed by Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability as part of the Southeast Electric Transportation Regional Initiative (SETRI).

Hosted by the National Rural Transit Assistance Program, this webinar features alternative fuel experts from Clean Cities and Communities Coalitions (part of the U.S. Department of Energy) and the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance (SEEA). Speakers will provide an overview of the differences between alternative fuels (such as battery electric, compressed natural gas, propane, and others), including the benefits and challenges, and their uses in transit applications. Attendees will also learn about the Clean Cities and Communities Coalition program and be able to locate the closest Clean Cities Coalition that serves their jurisdiction.

The EPA anticipates awarding up to $932 million in competitive grant funding under the 2024 Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grants Program Notice of Funding Opportunity. The program is soliciting applications nationwide for a grant competition to fund the replacement of existing non-zero-emission Class 6 and 7 heavy-duty vehicles with zero-emission Class 6 and 7 heavy-duty vehicles. To support zero-emission vehicle adoption and deployment, funding may also be used for: zero-emission vehicle refueling infrastructure, workforce development and training, project implementation costs. The Southeast Sustainability Director’s Network (SSDN)’s Southeast Regional Local Infrastructure Hub (LIH) Cohorts Program seeks to Provides direct support and technical assistance (grant strategy, stakeholder engagement, federal proposal development, etc.) to local governments and their partners to access federal funding to advance equitable climate projects and initiatives. Communities have the opportunity to apply for one on one assistance from SSDN’s LIH Cohort’s technical assistance bench and/or capacity building awards – with transportation electrification among eligible category areas. To be eligible for LIH support, project and grant funding being targeted must address both climate and racial equity with broad community impact. See link for details.
