Southeast Portal for Electric Transportation Opportunities

This portal serves as a central hub that aggregates and enhances the visibility of active funding sources, comment solicitations, research opportunities, events, and other participatory initiatives geared towards advancing transportation electrification – primarily across Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

This list is managed by Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability as part of the Southeast Electric Transportation Regional Initiative (SETRI).

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) is soliciting applications for its EV Infrastructure Charging Program. Eligible Applicants are government and non-government entities planning to install fast-charging projects that are not eligible under the NEVI program and AC Level 2 charging projects serving destinations where people frequently gather for extended periods of time, including, but not limited to, hospitals, schools, public and private workplaces, hotels, places for leisure and outdoor recreation, entertainment and sporting venues, and near multi-unit residential dwellings. Applications will be accepted from Tuesday, August 13, 2024 until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program (CFI), The CFI Program is divided into two separate grant categories: (1) the Community Charging and Fueling Program Grants (Community Program), to strategically deploy electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, hydrogen fueling infrastructure, propane fueling infrastructure, and natural gas fueling infrastructure located on public roads or in other publicly accessible locations; and (2) the Alternative Fuel Corridor Grants (Corridor Program), to strategically deploy charging and alternative fueling infrastructure located along designated alternative fuel corridors. Through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) State Energy Program, the US Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded funding to the State Energy Office within the SC Office of Regulatory Staff (SCEO) to fund several high-impact demonstration projects in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and clean transportation (up to $25,000). Eligible applicants include state agencies, local governments, public colleges/universities/technical colleges, K-12 public schools, and non-profit organizations. See link for details.

This US Department of Energy (DOE) webinar will cover how the grid edge applies to a range of technologies, how these technologies work together, and how innovation at the grid edge can help keep costs affordable, while also increasing reliability and resilience for customers and the grid. This includes how the increase in electric vehicles and other end-use devices and an increasingly decentralized grid highlight the importance of the grid edge (i.e. where electricity distribution transitions between the energy utility and the end user).

The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation (Joint Office), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Energy to Communities (C2C) Program, has launched the second set of modules for the Public Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure Playbook. The playbook features interactive resources to assist with the planning and building of infrastructure that supports the transition to zero-emission transportation. The Joint Office will host a webinar showcasing the latest set of modules designed to help communities, planning organizations, local and state governments, Tribal Nations, and other decision makers navigate important considerations when planning and deploying EV charging infrastructure.
